First Fruit: Giving God First Place.
Giving firstfruits honors God, expresses faith, sanctifies the rest, and invites His abundant provision and blessing.
Speaker: Ps. Binay Bhandari
Giving firstfruits is not just about the amount we offer; it is about giving God the first place in our lives. Proverbs 3:9-10 teaches us to honor the Lord with the first of our wealth and income, promising abundant blessings in return. In the Hebrew understanding, firstfruits are not negotiable-they belong entirely to God. They express our faith in future blessings, removing doubt and unnecessary debate, for the decision is already made in our hearts.
Offering firstfruits reveals three key truths. First, priority-God comes first, not after everything else is fulfilled. Second, consecration-the first portion sanctifies the rest. Third, trust-we give in faith before any guarantee, unlike fear, which gives only after certainty.
Worship and giving cannot be separated; worship without giving is incomplete. Firstfruits are not about pressure or manipulation but aligning ourselves with God’s spiritual principle of blessing. Examples abound: Abraham offering Isaac (Genesis 22:5), David refusing to offer worthless sacrifices (2 Samuel 24:24), the Magi presenting precious gifts to Jesus (Matthew 2:1-11), and Abel giving the best by faith (Hebrews 11:4).
True participation in firstfruits requires acknowledging God as the source of all, setting aside the first portion willingly, giving with love and gratitude, and trusting fully in Him. In doing so, the remainder of our resources is sanctified and blessed-this is God’s spiritual law filling our lives with His provision and grace.
